Buying a non-working Yashica Samurai Half-Frame 35mm Film Camera (Model No. 188938 with Kyocera lens) comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages:1. Unique and Rare: The Yashica Samurai is a half-frame camera, which means it captures two images on a single frame of 35mm film, effectively doubling the number of exposures per roll. This makes it an intriguing and collectible item for photography enthusiasts.
2. Potential for Learning: Repairing and restoring a non-working camera can be a rewarding experience for those who are interested in photography and electronics. It can be an opportunity to learn about the inner workings of a camera and potentially save money by doing the repairs yourself.
3. Cost-Effective: Buying a non-working camera can be more affordable than purchasing a fully functional one due to the lower price tag. If the repair costs turn out to be lower than expected, the overall investment can still result in a good deal.
Disadvantages:1. Time and Effort: Restoring a non-working camera can be time-consuming and may require a significant investment of effort and resources. The repair process may involve acquiring specialized tools, parts, and knowledge.
2. Uncertainty: The extent and cost of the required repairs are unknown until the camera is inspected by a professional or the individual attempting the repair. There is a risk that the camera may be beyond repair, or the repair costs may exceed the value of the camera.
3. Risk of Damage: Opening the camera to inspect or repair it carries the risk of accidental damage to the delicate components or the film itself.
Conclusion:The decision to buy a non-working Yashica Samurai Half-Frame 35mm Film Camera (Model No. 188938 with Kyocera lens) depends on your individual circumstances, interests, and budget. If you are looking for a unique and collectible item, enjoy learning about photography and electronics, and are willing to invest the time and resources required for repair, then this camera could be an excellent choice. However, if you are looking for a fully functional camera and are not interested in the repair process, it may be better to consider purchasing a working model instead.
Recommendation:If you are interested in purchasing a Yashica Samurai Half-Frame 35mm Film Camera, I would recommend starting by researching the common issues and repair methods for this particular model. This can be done through online forums, repair manuals, and videos. Additionally, you may want to consider reaching out to local camera shops or repair services for an estimate on the cost and feasibility of the required repairs. Finally, consider setting a budget for the project and weighing the potential costs against the value of a fully functional camera.
Details:
The next biggest issue is the lens foggy. When you put film in and close the door, it loads advances to first frame. Power zoom works. Non-working condition.
Battery compartment is clean and corrosion free. There does not appear to be any fungus, its just foggy. And finally, we could not get the flash to fire when testing. Camera is in great cosmetic condition, but has many functional issues.
This camera is being sold as-is. This can be seen looking at the front of lens, and also through viewfinder. But that is all it does. For parts or repair.
Film does not advance after taking a picture. The biggest issue, is that the film does not advance.
