Pros of buying a Mamiya A8 35mm Press Camera with 100mm f/3.5 and 150mm f/5.6 lenses:1. High-quality construction and build: Mamiya is known for its durable and high-quality camera bodies, which ensures a long-lasting photography experience.
2. Large format sensor: The 6x9 format gives you more detail and image area compared to standard 35mm cameras, resulting in better image quality.
3. Interchangeable lenses: The ability to switch between the 100mm f/3.5 and 150mm f/5.6 lenses allows for versatility in capturing different scenes and subjects.
4. Manual focus and manual aperture control: This provides more control over the depth of field and exposure, allowing you to create more artistic images.
5. Affordable compared to medium format cameras: While not as cheap as entry-level 35mm cameras, the Mamiya A8 is still a more affordable option for those looking to venture into larger format photography.
Cons of buying a Mamiya A8 35mm Press Camera with 100mm f/3.5 and 150mm f/5.6 lenses:1. Lack of autofocus: Manual focus can be challenging, especially for beginners, and may require more time and practice to achieve sharp images.
2. Larger and heavier than standard 35mm cameras: The larger sensor and build of the Mamiya A8 may make it less portable and suitable for stationary or tripod-mounted use.
3. Film-based photography: This camera requires film and processing, which can be more expensive and time-consuming than digital photography.
4. Limited compatibility with modern accessories: Due to its age and film-based nature, the Mamiya A8 may not be compatible with modern accessories such as wireless remotes, flashes, or batteries.
Conclusion:The Mamiya A8 35mm Press Camera with 100mm f/3.5 and 150mm f/5.6 lenses is a great option for photographers looking to explore larger format photography at an affordable price. Its high-quality construction, manual control, and large format sensor provide excellent image quality, but its manual focus, larger size, and film-based nature can be challenging for some users. Ultimately, whether this camera is right for you depends on your photographic needs, preferences, and experience level.
Recommendation:If you are a beginner interested in larger format photography, I would recommend starting with a more affordable and easier-to-use 6x6 medium format camera. However, if you are a more experienced photographer looking for a high-quality and versatile 6x9 format camera with interchangeable lenses, the Mamiya A8 35mm Press Camera is a solid choice. Just be prepared to invest in film, processing, and potentially some additional accessories.
Details:
The only flaw is that there a slight bit of oil on the leaf shutter. Please view all photos to see condition. It doesn seem to affect the shutter speeds though as they all be accurate my ear. There is some haze in the viewfinder and a small dent on top of body.
The 100mm lens looks and functions perfectly. There is moisture inside and the shutter aperture blades both have oil on them so it will need to be opened cleaned. The shutter works and the timings seem accurate enough but seems to get stuck every once in a while. 150mm lens looks perfect and functions well but has a couple of issues.
The bellows looks in great shape as well the internals of camera body. Camera has 6x9 back, 100mm f3.5 lens, 150mm 5.6 lens. The film back looks great with minimal wear and it functions perfectly.
